Josephine Milani
Passed away
Josephine Milani was born in Illinois and raised in New York City. She received a BA from Hunter College and an MA from Columbia University. Her main subject of study was Foreign Languages and was licensed to teach French, Spanish, Italian and English. She taught for 25 years in various high schools and at one time, also taught at Marymount College in New York City.
Because teaching positions were scarce, immediately after graduation, she worked for several years as a legal secretary on Wall Street. She was eventually able to obtain a position in her chosen field and taught for 7 years before her marriage. After raising 3 children, she resumed her career and taught in Dobbs Ferry High School for 18 years, the last two as Chairman of the Foreign Language Department in the Dobbs Ferry School System.
Upon retirement, Josephine began teaching religion, another subject she had always been interested in, as she believed it is essential to know more about the Lord, for He is eternal. Her volunteer work at St. Augustine Church, Ossining, N. Y. included Director/ Coordinator of Religious Education, President of the Legion of Mary, Lector and Commentator for Mass, Planning the candlelight procession and mass for the Our Lady of Fatima feast day as well as the Pro-Life Holy Hour.
Josephine was a member of the Italian Apostolate of the Archdiocese of New York and planned the annual Columbus Day Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in NYC.
Josephine was predeceased by her loving husband of 63 years, Alfred, in December 2013.
Surviving Josephine are her three children, Christine Stigliano, Mark Milani and Mary Milani. She had 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
