Obituary

Hilda C Bonavist August 25, 1914 - June 15, 2008 Hilda C Bonavist, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a life-long Ossining resident, passed away at Phelps Hospital late Sunday night, she was 93 years old. Hilda was best known for her 32 years of distinguished service to the Ossining School District, as well as her avid membership in Golden Agers, Business and Professional Women, Good Fortune Travel Club, Ossining Historical Society, and was also a member of the volunteers at Phelps Hospital for 25 years. Always a classy and hard working lady, who never liked to impose on anyone, and always went that extra mile for everyone; there is actually an award in her name within the Ossining School District, given annually to a stand-out non-teaching employee. She was also honored with a Hilda Bonavist Day in Ossining. Born Hilda Erna Carey, to Walter and Erna Carey of the Bronx, NY on August 25th 1914, the family moved to Ossining when she was three years old. She was a member of the 1932 graduating class of Ossining High School. In 1936 she married Joseph Bonavist, her beloved husband who predeceased her in 1972. She was also predeceased by her brother Walter Carey of Montrose. Mrs. Bonavist is survived by son Tony Bonavist, daughter Ann Visconti, brother Alfred Carey, sister Ruth Tryon, granddaughter Karen (Visconti) Sharps and grandson-in-law David Sharps, granddaughter Christine Visconti, grandson Dan Visconti, and great-grandson Anthony Sharps, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She will be greatly missed. Visiting will take place at Dorsey Funeral home at 14 Emwilton Place in Ossining on Tuesday June 17, from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. Funeral mass will be held at Saint Ann's Church at Eastern Ave. in Ossining on Wednesday, June 18 at 10 AM. Interment will follow at Saint Augustine's Cemetery.
