Acolina, Kathleen Anderson Fifty-seven years before her death, Kathleen Anderson played stoopball on the streets of Brooklyn, and she was very happy. Twenty-eight years later, as Sister Mary Timothy, she would leave the Sisters of Divine Compassion, an order she served for many years. She was 32. In the next 29 years, she would work, marry, give birth to a daughter she would fiercely and passionately love. She would turn houses into homes. She would live a quiet life, and a simple one. Four years before her death: illness. She accepted this indignity with the same grace with which she lived her life. Forty-six months later, she would celebrate her last Christmas, singing one of her favorite carols. It tells of the world-weary, toiling down a long, hard road. They stop to rest, and to hear the angels sing. During her lifetime, Kathleen understood the value of family and friends, and during her final days, she was surrounded in abundance by both. Shortly before her death, she lay in bed, wrapped in the loving arms of her daughter, whose marriage she would never see, whose children she would never hold. She talked about stoopball, and a life well-lived, and she was very happy. Early on the afternoon of March 21st , God gathered her soul into His warm and loving embrace. Kathleen Acolina was 61 years old, and she was at peace. Fire will return her body to ashes, which will be gently lowered into a grave in a small cemetery in an unassuming town, hard by the Hudson she loved. The creek running through the cemetery, long frozen silent, will be clamoring to life with the early spring thaw, but if you listen carefully, and very, very closely…you'll hear the angels sing. Kathleen is survived by her husband of 26 years, Charles, and loving daughter Sarah; her brothers Tom(Regina) and David, and wonderful sister Liz(Gary), and best friend Nancy Ohman. Visiting hours will be held Friday,2-4, 7-9 PM with the funeral mass Saturday at 10:00 AM at St. Theresa's Church in Briarcliff Manor. The Cremation will be private.
